Blame Shifting // The Devil Made Me Do It Part 1 // Pastor Greg Colbert
Why do we often blame others—even God—when we fall into temptation?
In this message, we unpack James 1:13–16 and confront a common spiritual mistake: blame shifting. Scripture teaches that God does not tempt us. Instead, temptation begins within us—through desires that pull us away from God if left unchecked.
This sermon explores the difference between temptation and testing, how sin develops over time, and why self-control through the Holy Spirit is key to living in freedom.
You’ll learn:
• Why temptation itself is not sin
• The difference between God testing you vs. temptation pulling you away
• How misdiagnosing the problem leads to mistreating the solution
• How desire can grow into sin if it isn’t surrendered to God
• How walking in the Holy Spirit gives you power over the flesh
Jesus understands our struggles. As Hebrews 4:15 reminds us, He was tempted in every way we are—yet without sin. Through Him, we can take every thought captive and walk in victory.
If you’ve ever wrestled with temptation or struggled with taking responsibility for your spiritual battles, this message will help you recognize the source and respond with truth.

Get Them To Jesus// Thrive City Church // Pastor Greg Colbert
What would you do to get someone to Jesus?
In Mark 2:1–5 (NIV), four men carried their paralyzed friend through a crowded house, climbed onto a roof, tore it open, and lowered him down to Jesus. They inconvenienced themselves. They found a way. And they didn’t drop him.
“When Jesus saw their faith…” — not just the faith of the man on the mat, but the faith of the friends who carried him.
This message challenges us with one powerful mission: Get Them To Jesus.
We’re not called to reach everyone at once — but we are called to reach someone.
Jesus gave us the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19–20 (NKJV) — to go and make disciples of all nations. And heaven reminds us in Luke 15:10 (NIV) that there is rejoicing over just one sinner who repents.
🌱 We plant.
💧 We water.
📈 God gives the increase.
Let’s inconvenience ourselves for someone’s eternity.
Let’s find a way.
Let’s not drop them.
It’s time to carry someone to Jesus.

Hidden in Plain Sight // Rooted Part 6 // Pastor Greg Colbert
Hidden In Plain Sight | Rooted Series
In this powerful message from our Rooted series, we dive into Jesus’ parable of the wheat and the weeds in Matthew 13:24–30, 36–43 (NIV) and uncover a sobering truth: not everything growing in your field was planted by God.
“Hidden In Plain Sight” challenges us to examine what’s been allowed to grow alongside the good seed in our lives. Jesus reveals that while He sows good seed, the enemy also sows weeds — often unnoticed at first. And sometimes what looks similar on the surface has very different roots.
🌱 What does it really mean to be rooted?
To be firmly established, anchored, and nourished in Christ so that your faith remains steady regardless of circumstances. A rooted life draws strength from an unshakable connection to Jesus — and that connection produces growth.
But remember:
Before elevation, there must be excavation.
God is concerned with what’s beneath the surface.
Because what’s rooted determines what’s revealed.
In this message, we explore:
The reality of spiritual opposition
Why God allows wheat and weeds to grow together
The importance of fruit inspection
The progression of spiritual maturity:
Rooted → Faithful → Fruitful → Multiply
We also confront this truth:
A fruitful mentality without a multiplication mentality eventually creates a maintenance mentality.
Are you just maintaining… or are you multiplying?
As Jesus warns in Matthew 26:41 (NIV):
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
This message will challenge you to stay alert, stay rooted, and stay ready for the harvest.
If you have ears to hear, let them hear.
